ERAA Softball Handbook and documents

Handbook that governs how the ERAA softball board will conduct the tryout process, select teams, and select coaches.

Tryout Process

Areas to be scored

¨       Grounders
¨       Fly balls
¨       Hitting
¨       Bunting
¨       Pitching for those interested in pitching
¨       Catching for those interested in catching
 
Infield Grounders – 10 balls - grade fielding and throwing on a scale of 1 – 6
            Accuracy                       Technique
            Arm Strength                 Range
  1. Shortstop           6 balls (2 Right, 2 Left, 2 Center)
  2. Line up at 3rd     3 balls
  3. Charge a bunt    1 ball
Fly Balls – 6-8 balls – grade catch accuracy and throwing on a scale of 1 - 6
  1. 2 Left
  2. 2 Right
  3. 2 Back
Hitting  - grade contact, power and form on a scale of 1 – 6
            10 pitches but only 8 balls will be scored
Bunting – 4 balls – grade form (only 12U and up) on a scale of   1 - 6

Pitchers – grade speed, accuracy and variety of pitches
               Have girls throw for 10 minutes
               Judges should ask for a number of pitches
                        Different pitches
                        Change up – rise ball
                        Inside corner – outside corner-High-Low
           
Catchers – grade on throwing, technique and blocking
                        Fielding a bunt to first/third
                        Throwing to second
                        Receiving
                        Catching a pitch all
¨       Pitchers should throw to the catchers
